This is the original Japan-only Famicom version of the later NES game, 'Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse.' Unlike the NES version, this cartridge contained the VRC6 chip which, among other features, enabled the game to use 3 extra sound channels in addition to the Famicom's standard 5. This expanded audio palette allowed for the creation of a soundtrack that is much fuller, richer, and more complex than its slimmed-down Western counterpart. Please note: The console that this hardware recording was created from was modified, so the audio may not be 100% accurate to how it would have sounded on an original console. In addition, a third jack enables separate output of Famicom expansion audio, giving the console three-channel output. As a result of needing to mix these to two-channel stereo for recording, I decided to create two separate mixes. Mix 1: 2A03 merged to mono via Y-cable and recorded as left channel / VRC6 as right channel Mix 2: 2A03 kept as full stereo / VRC6 as mono Mix 1 was recorded from the console in one pass. Mix 2 was created in software by recording the 2A03 output separately and mixing it onto the previously recorded VRC6 output. Both mixes include three versions:
