I don't agree with this name change. "The Bugs Bunny" doesn't make any sense as a title on its own. The "The" is only in reference to the Crazy Castle, and in this case "Bugs Bunny" serves as something of an adjective of its own.
On the actual box, the only words that are set differently are "Bugs Bunny". Indeed Crazy Castle is below "Bugs Bunny" and in a different typeset. But the "The" is also equally separated and equally in a different typeset. Bugs Bunny is only different to market Bugs Bunny's name specifically. To make it stand out to Bugs Bunny fans. The title screen also places the "The" in a different and unusual place versus Bugs Bunny's name.

Do you mean a more correct title in this way is "Bugs Bunny - The Crazy Castle"?
"The Crazy Castle series is a platform game series created by Kemco and released..." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crazy_Castle)
So "Bugs Bunny" is just a mascot advertisement name, but the series title is "The Crazy Castle".

I think it's difficult to try to guess what the game makers/publishers were trying to do with that name. Most places where clarification would be expected don't provide any. No trademark info on the box back. And there the game is only ever referred to as "Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle" without the "The". So the box/cartridge front and the title screen are the only bearers of the "The".
All things considered, I think it should be "Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle, The". It's the common sense answer to an otherwise impossible problem. There's no way to include the "The" in any way that makes full sense. But it's there in both box/cartridge and title screen, so we don't have a choice. Your suggestion "Bugs Bunny - The Crazy Castle" is far superior on actually sounding good, but I doubt it was the intended name (but I'm no expert).
The title screen seems to paste the "The" over the top of the rest of the title. As if saying "Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle? Nah, this is THE Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle!" So I guess there's THAT. :P

It looks like even the developpers were confused because there is a sequel on the Game Boy: "The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 2" and 2 more sequels on the Game Boy Color that dropped the "the": "Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 3" and "Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 4".
I agree this is weird one, yet both the boxart and the title say "The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle" so we'll go with that.
