old:
x027 - Famicom Mini Vol. 01 - Super Mario Bros. (Japan) (Hot Mario Campaign)
1601 - Famicom Mini Vol. 27 - Famicom Tantei Club - Kieta Koukeisha - Zen Kou Hen (Japan)
1602 - Famicom Mini Vol. 28 - Famicom Tantei Club Part II - Ushiro ni Tatsu Shoujo - Zen Kou Hen (Japan)

fix:
x027 - Super Mario Bros. - Fukkoku Ban (Japan) (Hot Mario Campaign)
1601 - Famicom Mini Vol. 27 - Famicom Tantei Club - Kieta Koukeisha - Zen, Kouhen (Japan)
1602 - Famicom Mini Vol. 28 - Famicom Tantei Club Part II - Ushiro ni Tatsu Shoujo - Zen, Kouhen (Japan)

Super Mario Bros.
It is clear that this title is a prototype of "1364 - Famicom Mini Vol. 01 - Super Mario Bros. (Japan) (Rev A)".
However, I think that it is improper to apply the title of "Famicom Mini".
There are some reasons.

"X027" is a title announced before "Famicom Mini Series" is put on the market.
It is "Famicom" the 20th anniversary goods in official.
It is not the one made as "Famicom Mini Series".
(There is a possibility of researching marketing and the reputation)

The title name(X027) in a press release at that time was "Super Mario Bros. - Fukkoku Ban" or "Fukkoku Ban - Super Mario Bros.".

"Famicom Mini Series" is wrapped in an original package and the outside box.
But this is no outside box in "X027".
Moreover, the mark of "Famicom Mini Series" doesn't exist in the Boxart.

I think that "Super Mario Bros. - Fukkoku Ban" is appropriate.

1601 - Famicom Mini Vol. 27 - Famicom Tantei Club - Kieta Koukeisha - Zen, Kouhen (Japan) <-- Ok
1602 - Famicom Mini Vol. 28 - Famicom Tantei Club Part II - Ushiro ni Tatsu Shoujo - Zen, Kouhen (Japan) <-- Ok

I missed these when I changed #1600.

x027 - Super Mario Bros. - Fukkoku Ban (Japan) (Hot Mario Campaign)

I agree with you about removing "Famicom Mini", but I'm not sure about adding "Fukkoku Ban". It is not displayed on the boxart:

http://kikaim.s8.xrea.com/game/gba/fsmb.htm

but, I can't really inspect it properly (too small picture). Are you able to read the 3 kanjis inside the little rectangle on the yellow and grey pictures? (bottom of page).

Off-topic: Could you help me with the "kara" discussion? (NDS discussion).

There might be a cramped part because English is unskilled.

>but, I can't really inspect it properly (too small picture). Are you able to read the 3 kanjis inside the little rectangle on the yellow and grey pictures? (bottom of page).
This display is "非売品(not for sale)".

However,
A correct package(set) of this title

Super Mario Bros. - Fukkoku Ban
GameBoyAdvance 20th anniversary

This set is wrapped in the outside box.
It is written, "スーパーマリオブラザーズ 復刻版GBAソフト" in this outside box(BoxArt).
https://www.gamebancho.jp/bancho/img/goods/small/310060A.JPG

It should be "Super Mario Bros. - Fukkoku Ban GBA Soft" strictly.
However, it thinks of "GBA Soft" like the commodity explanation.
Because you may choose either, the judgment is left to you.

NDS discussion:
It takes time to make a response because it is busy this week.
Please wait a little.
sorry.

Ok, so that's the "Hot Mario Campaign" prize box containing a Famicom-themed GBA SP console plus the Super Mario Bros. game.

Thanks a lot for your top quality documentation. However I think that "Fukkoku Ban" should not be part of title. It is more an additional description, used to introduce the "Famicom Mini" concept, not used on game boxart, cartridge, booklet nor in-game.

In fact, I think that "Fukkoku Ban" could be applied to all "Famicom Mini" games, because they are also "reprints" of old Famicom games which are ported to GBA (GBA Soft).

I'm not sure but Famicom Mini might be written on the back of the boxart on the lower left

http://www.geocities.jp/tonsoku8029/FCM/fcm.html

Can't read it properly though.

Interesting sidenote: The Hot Mario version appears to be Revision A judging from the cart label while being an 1.0 internally.

Also I can't find the volume numbers we use in the dat anywhere. Do they exist?
BigFred » 2009-08-19 10:23:02

sorry, mixed the carts. Rev A appears to be fine. But all Famicom Mini numbers are still in question.
kazumi213 » 2009-08-19 12:20:39

Regarding "Famicom Mini" usage on the back of the boxart (lower left), I can partially recognize:

ファミリー コンピュー (Family Compu)

In any case, I'm sure it is not ファミコン ミニ (Famicom Mini)

Famicom Mini numbers come from the (outer) boxes, on the side

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/fmk/supermario/index.html

There is official number assignation by nintendo:

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/fmk/index.html
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/fmk2/index.html
http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n08/fmk3/index.html

We don't consider sidebox info, but I don't know whether the number is also displayed on the outer box front, under the game box. Seems official enough to keep the numbers, anyway.

What can be discussed is whether "Vol." should be used. I think Nintendo only uses the number, i.e.

Famicom Mini 02 - Donkey Kong (Japan)

Finally, what about

Famicom Mini - Dai-2-ji Super Robot Taisen (Japan) (Promo)
Famicom Mini - Kido Senshi ZGundam Hot Scramble (Japan) (Promo)

should "Famicom Mini" be removed?
BigFred » 2009-08-19 13:55:45

Those games come in normal Famicom Mini big boxes so it should stay. Thanks for the info about vol. numbers.

What is the definition of a promo btw? There are several not-for-sale games but just a few are called promo. I just wondered.
kazumi213 » 2009-08-20 06:21:11

A game is tagged (Promo) when it is only available as a result of a promotional event: prize of a contest, as a bonus for pre-ordering another product, "paying" by sending 200 coupons of something, etc.

Otherwise you can't get the game by buying it through official commercial channel.

When the actual promotional event is well known, name of the event is used instead of (Promo), i.e. (Hot Mario Campaign).

Of course all (Promo) games are "Not for Sale", but they don't necessarily display that information.

SRT and ZGundam (requires title revision) were (separate) raffle prizes for those buying certain NGC games.
