Both, "Iridion II (Europe) (En,Fr,De)" and "Iridion II (USA)" freeze on emulators and on real hardware.

Could anyone please verify that these are correct dumps?

The game features a copy protection. At certain points in the game it will try to write to SRAM and crash when it is able to. The game does not have any save feature and therefore the real retail cart does not contain SRAM. This is done because flashcarts save to SRAM and therefore the game is able to detect whether is is played on flash hardware.

If you set the save type to EEPROM or none on VBA it will not crash. Erase the old .sav file before you do so. On flash hardware there is no way to prevent this to happen with an original dump so people have cracked the game. Squall Leonhart has a cracked copy which does never crash. We will never list altered copies in the dats because it's against the purpose of this project.

There are other cases like that. Some Pokemon games, Dragon Ball and more.

Thank you for finally clearing that up for me.

np - and I think it won't help if you continue from save states. You'll have to start over afaik.

Yes I noticed. VBA-M needs some save managment tuning...

Anyway, I don't care much about actually playing these games, I'm more interested in how they work :p

Maybe you might want to point Squall to an interesting copy protection which is still unemulated. While all the light sensor, motion sensor etc. feature are unemulated you will never get the real feeling anyway so the use is a bit questionable. But there is one that makes sense looking at:

The Bouken Yuuki Pluster series uses dongles that have to be attached to the game. Without you can't even start the game unless you use a cracked version. Now the interesting part is that there are different dongles and depending on which you attach you gain access to special features like different characters etc. A dongle change feature has been included in the crack for one or two of these but not all. Proper implementation in VBA would be nice to have.
