However it is necessary to differentiate between *correct* romanization and *wrong but accepted* romanization. The latter is usually accepted just because is convenient to ensure correct reading by non-japanese people, but that doesn't make the wrong romanization to be legit.
We try to always use *correct* romanization. "Shougi" is the correct romanization according to Hepburn rules.
I would prefer to keep wrong romanization exceptions to a minimum amount, like the Tokyo, Kyoto, Tokaido ones (maybe there are a few more). Starting to use wrong romanization as a general rule just because it is accepted would be a bad decision.
